We love networking and keeping up to date with the latest in the Aesthetic Industry. Which new Botulinum Toxin is out, which new dermal fillers are worth trying, oh and the injection systems.... Don't mock them until you've tried them, but don't try them until you've seen the clinical data. After all we still want to remain safe, and at the same time ensure we're profitable businesses. So it's great to see new suppliers and new products on the market.

The Cosmetic News Expo this year was 3 times bigger and better than last year, so imagine how it's going to be next year... Don't forget to put it in your diary. Don't have next year's diary? That's no excuse: Put in the last day of this years diary ready for when you switch over to your 2012 diary. Put it in your online diary, block out your clinic. You need to work ON your business as well as IN your business to ensure your business continues to grow, and you don't get left behind by your competition! What are you waiting for....

Please excuse my over excitement

Please excuse all of my non aesthetic tweets of late. I'm so excited to watch my brother fight. Not that it's that exciting usually, only when he wins with a 10 second knock out....phew (He has a bit of a reputation for these). Holding my breath for that long was fine! If you want to watch him on you tube you can see haw fantastic he is. Of course, he has had filler in the past. Many moons ago I might add, in his forehead. What was I thinking?! This was when I first started in aesthetics and thought we had to eradicate my Dad's hereditary forehead line. Botulinum Toxin A of course should have been the way forward as a first choice, but noooo I just wanted to practice (Oh Dear!). We all have to start somewhere. Shhh, don't tell him I told you!

What aesthetic treatment MUST you have?

Ok, I'm at the age where I'm feeling old. I'm not of course. I'm only 29+1! However, the grey hairs are telling me otherwise and it's just dawned on me that I must start dyeing my hair on a regular basis!! That's if I want to hold back the years. Now I think this must be how people feel when they want to have filler and botox, and eventually plastic surgery. I've told my husband to hold me back against temptation of the fillers and not get led down the overfilled path that can be seen on many people's faces. Of course done correctly, I should look fine. I don't trust anyone but myself and I'm not going down that route for sure...

Cage fighters also seek advice in aesthetics

The aesthetic industry continues to grow at a rapid rate as more and more people realise the benefits of cosmetic enhancement. Sportsmen and women who take part in activities that can cause damage and disfigurement to their faces, are turning to the corrective procedures offered by practitioners today. In particular, cage fighters are opting for the more aesthetic methods in facial repair. The very nature of cage fighting and mixed martial arts (MMA), which allows minimal protective padding on the gloves, entails that fighters’ faces are more susceptible to physical damage and thus require restoration.

Professional cage fighter, Tim Newman, is testament to this new trend. On deforming his cheekbone during one of his fights last year, Tim was fortunate enough that his sister, aesthetic practitioner Chantalle Coombes, trainer at Aesthetic Academy+ was on hand to advise him on what to do. Although at first glance he appeared to have hollowing in his cheek, a fantastic case for cheek augmentation, on thorough examination it transposed that he had infact broken the bone, Chantalle was able to instruct him to seek surgical repair instead. When scarring occurs, non-injectable practices, such as dermal fillers and the dermal roller, can serve to naturally aid marking and restore face shape to its former glory.

If anyone can help to defy the supposed emasculating preconceptions associated with aesthetics, then it would most definitely be fighters!

Non Medical Injector Support

We believe that if you have a medical background you are best placed to offer non-surgical injectable treatments. We believe this, The Independent Health Care Advisory Service believe this, reputable insurance companies believe this and so do the clients and medical practitioners we've asked. Due to the lack of education for Joe Bloggs, clients are not asking for practitioner's qualifications and it seems that more beauty therapists are trying to offer non-surgical injectables. We found an article whilst training in Solihull last week, that disputes the fact that only medical professionals should inject. They believe that so long as beauty therapists are trained in anaphylaxis and first aid, then they have sufficient training to deal with any reactions. Let us know what you think.
